Calling all Swifties! Meet Taylor Swift! How did she get that name? T. Swift was rescued from a Lancaster County, PA breeding farm when one of our volunteers went to pick up another dog being surrendered. She was just a baby and “dropping poop.” Of course, we said yes to taking her with us that day. She was a surprise rescue that day. The 13th and final dog put into the van, on the 13th day of May, in Finding Shelter’s 13th year of operation, and the day the human Taylor Swift was in Philadelphia for her Eras tour! We couldn’t name her anything else!

After Taylor was rescued, she was taken to the surgeon under the assumption that her “dropping poop” would be because of her luxating patellas but we were shocked when x-rays showed a tail pull injury that was the cause of her fecal incontinence and discomfort. This was likely a preventable injury from someone pulling or stepping on her tail as she moved forward away from them.

When Taylor was spayed, she was also given a steroid epidural injection and it helped some with her discomfort when going to the bathroom but did not fully resolve the issue so research is being done to see if anything else can be done to help her. In the meantime, she will likely be a dog in a diaper for life.

Despite having some back-end issues, Taylor LOVES to run fast, wrestle and play with other dogs, especially her brother Austin. She loves to sing, play with toys, and to be cuddled and loved. We know she needs a special person to care for her for the rest of her life but she is totally worth that extra TLC!*

*All dogs will go through a transition period after finding a new home and may need a “refresher course” in house-breaking.
