Meet Coco, a good six-year-old girl with lots of love to give! She was surrendered to a shelter by a family who could not care for her and made her way to Finding Shelter to receive much needed medical care. She had developed infections on her skin and ears. She arrived, itchy and in pain, scared and confused. Her foster family kept her in quarantine and isolated from their two dogs while she received amazing care and treatment from the Finding Shelter vets. After a few weeks, she was able to start integrating into the household (two adults, and two senior dogs – big male and little female).

Coco is house and crate trained and is a quick learner*. She sits for her treats, waits her turn, and takes her cookies so gently. She is great in a fenced in yard and needs one in her new home. But she is still learning to be comfortable and confident in her surroundings. She needs more training on a leash so a quiet neighborhood would be best. She does get skittish when cars or people pass, and will bark at passersby.

Coco is a dog who loves her people. Snuggles, scratches and kisses are her favorite things! She lives side-by-side with the big male dog who is a very tolerant boy who gives Coco her space. She would be best in a home without small dogs (the reason her foster family cannot adopt her). She goes after rabbits and squirrels in the yard so cats would most likely be a problem, too.

She is sweet, silly, and so loving. She spends all day on a dog bed next to her foster mom while she works, with the occasional nudge for attention and scratches. She eats quietly by herself but doesn’t exhibit any food aggression, waiting her turn (and learning to sit) when she gets snacks. She loves her water bowls to be full and cold (keep the toilet seats down!). Coco spends the evenings getting some loving from her foster people before she decides it’s time for bed. She then puts herself into her crate and stays there quietly all night long.

In the morning, Coco is excited to start the day – and she puts on such a show! She jumps so high and wiggles and smiles. She is so excited to say good morning!

Coco has started to learn to walk on a leash. She is a bit skittish with loud traffic noises and barks at cars and people. But she is easily redirected and is not aggressive. When a new person comes to the house, she will bark and then retreat to her crate. She looks to her foster people to let her know if it’s safe to say hello. It takes her some time to warm up to people but when she does, she is a total love bug!

Coco would do best in a home without small dogs or other animals. She is fine with larger dogs. She has not been around small children.
